As Trig commanded here is SIX!!!

Kylie had a feeling Mourdrid was dead serious but she couldn’t stop the giggle that escaped her mouth. “Mourdrid I don’t think you quiet get it yet but that’s ok.”

Christian snorted as the wolf turned and broke out into a run towards the mountain line. “Come on Blind Song they will need much looking after in the future I’m sure.”

Mourdrid glanced back. “I heard that you know!” Then with a toss of his head, he picked up speed trying to leave the other two behind.

Christian just barely tapped Blind Song in the side and he took off in a full gallop easily catching up and overtaking the arrogant wolf. “Never try and out run a deer.”

Kylie smiled as Christian pulled ahead then she leaned down and patted Mourdrid on his head. “You really must learn to calm yourself or you will forever be called a cub Mourdrid.”

Mourdrid gave an annoyed shudder that ran through his large body. “Why should I bother to accommodate people whom are not my master?”

Kylie sighed trying to think of how she could explain this to him in a way he could accept it. “Well you see sometimes it makes things easier if we just try not to fight especially with the situation we’re in now.”

Mourdrid contemplated her words a moment before speaking again. “So I should pretend to accept them for you the sake of less tension? I believe that to be the idea of a fool!”

Kylie felt her heartache at his words and her head dropped. “Then I suppose it is my duty to apologize for being a fool then.”

Mourdrid felt more like the fool now for saying that. “Kylie I did not mean to call you a fool I…I suppose I have much to learn is all.”

Kylie smiled gently. “Tis nothing to dwell on Mourdrid, twas a mistake is all.” Kylie said trying to soothe her friend.

Christian looked back at her and smiled as he took in her lovely smiling face. “Such a shame that someone so innocent must be thrown into this war.”

Blind Song ran gracefully not even losing his breath, hearing his master’s comment he was moved to say something. “Do not make your love for the girl know unless it’s a death wish you have.” Blind Song said a monotone voice.

Startled Christian looked down at his friend. “Even if I were to admit feelings towards the girl why would that mean I wish for death?”

Blind Song snorted at his master’s thick headedness. “Her wolf would soon as rip your limbs off then let you court her.”

Christian eyed Mourdrid warily. “He is her beast and he has every right to protect her but he will have to learn that you and I are not the enemy.”

“He knows that, but he also knows that as of now Kylie belongs to him and he is not about to share he is still a puppy after all.” Commented Blind Song.

By now, Mourdrid had grown tired of lagging behind and ran to catch up. “I am not about to leave you two up here alone to talk of me thinking my wolf’s ears can’t ear every word you say!”

Christian was stunned, that meant that Mourdrid had heard everything that Blind Song and he said. “Mourdrid you,”

Mourdrid glared at him his eyes dark with animal rage. I will not speak of what you and Blind Song said of your feelings for Kylie but in return you must leave her be, for she has enough to deal with right now. Mourdrid whispered inside Christian’s head.

Though Christian wasn’t too happy he would abide by the wolf’s wishes for now but only for Kylie’s sake. “Kylie you must prepare yourself now as we head into the mountains because once there we’ll be in constant danger understand?” He asked wanting to change the subject.

Kylie glanced at Christian, she was still wondering what Mourdrid had meant when he ran up along side them but didn’t want to stir things up. “I understand and I’ll be prepared.”

Mourdrid rolled his eyes already knowing she would be more than a handful to protect up in the Tree Fold Mountains. “Even if you think you are prepared we will still keep a constant watch
on you.”

Kylie huffed angrily. “Listen here you oversized puppy! I can so take care of myself!” She said in a determined tone.

Mourdrid growled at being called a puppy. “The only cub around here is you! I may be younger then most but I am no cub so watch yourself mistress!”

Angry that he thought he could get away with talking to her like that just because she was young, Kylie thrust her heels together kicking his sides with all her might.

Mourdrid yipped at the sudden stinging pain in his ribs. “What the hell was that for you retched woman?”

“That’s right Mourdrid! Woman not cub or little girl and if you make the mistake of treating me like a child then I’ll kick you harder next time!” She said in a matter of fact voice.

Christian burst out laughing at how Kylie had handled herself. “Sorry Mourdrid but I think she’ll be just fine in these mountains!”

Mourdrid lowered his head sulking at having been scolded by Kylie; wanting to show her he was sorry he picked up speed gliding through the trees ahead.

Christian saw Mourdrid race further ahead right into the mountains trees without checking for any danger signs. “Damnit! Blind Song pick up the pace or we’ll loose them!”

Mourdrid’s sides heaved as he pushed his legs to their breaking limits while running but he wanted to show Kylie a good time so he pushed aside his discomfort.

Kylie clung to Mourdrid enjoying the feel of the wind rushing by, but after a bit she could feel Mourdrid’s sides heaving beneath her legs. “Mourdrid slow down and give yourself a chance to
breathe!”

Mourdrid tossed his head and tried to stop but his legs buckled beneath him from the exertion and he went flying taking Kylie with him.

Kylie threw her arms up to shield herself as the ground came rushing up to meet her, she let out a loud yelp of pain though as she felt her arms and legs crash onto the hard mountain
ground.

Mourdrid panted as he tried to stand, glancing around he saw Kylie struggle to sit up with both her arms bruised and bleeding, but worst of all one of her legs looked mangled from the fall. He ran over to her and put his muzzle to her wound and she cried out in pain.

Kylie pushed Mourdrid’s head away from her leg as pain shot through it. “I think we need to find Christian, because my leg is broken and my chest wound has reopened.”

Mourdrid winced inwardly knowing he’d caused her to get hurt again. “I am sorry Kylie I should have been thinking when I took off like that…” He hung his head in apparent shame.

Kylie smiled despite how much her body ached and gently she reached out and stroked his soft fur. “It’s ok Mourdrid I know you were only trying to show me a good time and you did,” She rubbed her arms gently. “Just at a small price is all” She said with a small laugh. Mourdrid did not find anything about this situation funny. “I’ll go see if I can’t find him back there. With that deer of his I’m sure he has caught by now though.” Getting up he turned to leave only to come face to face with a very angry bear, and not just any bear it was one of the sacred beasts like himself. “Shit!”

Kylie looked around Mourdrid and gasped, the bear was huge at least twelve feet tall as it towered over her friend. “Run! Get out of here Mourdrid!”

Mourdrid opened his mouth snarling and snapping his jaws at the bear like a rabid dog. This is a wild beast Kylie! He has more power then most of my kind for he has no human of which he must restrain it from. Therefore, if I were to run he would swallow you alive! Even has he explained this to Kylie though he could see her forcing her injured body up and over to him.

Kylie gasped with each step that sent pain searing through her broken leg, as she made her way to Mourdrid’s side, she put one hand on his side. “I made a choice Mourdrid, to either run with you or to die with you it makes no, no mind to me which it is!”

“FOOL!” Like I would really sit here and let you die!” Rising to his full height, he stared at the bear who was preparing to charge, but just as he readied himself for the attack, a woman leapt in front of him.

Kylie felt the air around her go cold when the woman appeared out of nowhere. The woman had hair white as snow that fell around her face in a flurry since it was shorter than even some men’s, she wore a long white skirt and a white top that barely covered her upper body but really shocked Kylie was when she began to fight the bear.

She leapt into the air with such ease it appeared she was flying, and then she whipped out two double bladed swords in mid air. She tossed herself to where she was right above the bear upside down, as she plummeted down as held her blades at an angle to where she sliced through his arms like butter as she fell. Once on the ground she gave the bear not a second to move before she thrust herself up and plunged one of her weapons into its jaw with a sickening crunch.

With an agonized cry the bear fell to its knees but immediately tried to get up, that’s when the woman did something Kylie had never seen but only heard of, she held her hand in the air and suddenly the air froze into a thousand tiny icicles then proceeded to dice the bear into mince meat.

Mourdrid was just as stunned to see a bear of such power fall so easily to this human, that was until he got a better look at her and saw she had a white fox tail, fox ears and claws, along with fox’s eyes. “You are not a human!”

The woman turned, her crystal eyes flashing as she stared at Mourdrid. “No and you have a knack for stating the overly obvious apparently. Now come My Lady awaits your arrival Miss. Kylie.”

Stunned Kylie nodded, and tried moving towards the woman but her leg gave out and she fell to the ground with a scream and her world went dark.

Five.

Christian flinched at the wolf’s hot breath beating down on his skin, tilting his head up he glared at Mourdrid. “I am sorry, sorrier than you could ever fathom but… She will be sent to the waste lands.”

Kylie fought back the tears that seemed to want to fall more and more in recent days. “What of your promise Christian? Did you not just promise me your sword yesterday’s evening?”

Christian looked at Kylie and tried to think of words that would bring her comfort but no words could ever calm her now and he knew that. “That was before I learned of my King’s wishes Kylie…”

Kylie closed her eyes and a thin smile stretched across her pale lips. “I knew as much Christian, one cannot turn his back on everything he has ever known for a mere girl,” She opened her eyes that were now filled with a steely determination. “But know this, I will not lie down and die merely because our King demands it! I may not be worth much but my life is mine alone and I intend to live it the way I see fit!”

Shocked Christian gaped at the girl before him, gone was the timid girl who shied away at his touch. Now before him stood a woman who was willing to betray her kingdom in order to live.
“Kylie…you are no match for our armies…”

This time Mourdrid spoke up. “She will soon have the power to defend herself! I’ll make sure of that!”

Christian looked at the large beast skeptical eyes. “Just how do you intend to do that? No master of the arts here will train her, give her a power, or bestow a new name upon her!”

Mourdrid pulled his black lips into a sneer and gave a cackling laugh. “Aye but I do not intend to have one of these masters teach her!”

He now had Kylie’s attention; she looked up at him with curious eyes. “What do you mean by those words Mourdrid?”

Mourdrid lowered his head and stared at Kylie through one dark orb. “I will take you to the TreeFold Mountains; there you will train with a Master of all things. He will give you a name along with a power to protect yourself with.”

Christian couldn’t believe his ears. “Do you honestly think she would survive long enough in those mountains to reach the master?”

Kylie whipped around for the first time ever a deep anger flashing in her normally peaceful eyes. “What would it matter if to you if I died? You fully intend to let the enemy have me as it stands so why would my death concern you?”

Christian wanted to say it wasn’t true but he knew itself would be a lie. “Kylie I don’t want to hand you over but I do not have a choice in this matter!” He yelled, wanting to make her understand he grabbed her by her shoulders and held tightly.

Kylie flinched as Christian dug his fingers into the flesh on her thin shoulders. “Ow! Christian that hurts!”

He ignored her and forced her to look him in the eyes. “Listen Kylie if there was anything I could do to stop this I would but it’s not that simple!”

With eyes that shone with understanding, she stared at Christian then smiled. “Come with us!”

Dumbfounded he took a step back letting go of her shoulders that he was sure were now sporting deep bruises. “You want me to abandon everything? To denounce my title as a knight and become a traitor to my nation?”

Kylie let her head fall hair shadowing her face. “I know it is a lot to ask of one man but…” She brought her head back up to look at him. “Are you not a man of honor? Or would you obey a retched King and have me thrown away as nothing more than trash? Answer me now and no matter your choice I will forgive you and move on.”

Christian stood in silence staring at Kylie, he didn’t think he could go on living if he allowed this girl to be handed over to the enemy but to defy all he’d ever known would be just as painful.

Mourdrid growled lightly as he circled in front of Kylie. “Give up Kylie he stinks of indecision and he will never have the heart to choose you over his duty.”

Blind Song stepped forward and angled his blind eyes up to stare blankly at Mourdrid. “My Master is not as weak as you so believe wolf cub, but to give up ones life for another is not an easy thing either.”

Mourdrid snorted and turned his head away from Blind Song’s sightless stare. “Hard or not he should know in his heart of hearts what is right and wrong!”

Kylie laid a gentle hand on Mourdrid side and patted him softly. “Quiet Mourdrid, we both know what kind of weight this choice bares on his shoulders, and we shan’t condemn him for his choice either.”

Mourdrid let out a puff of warm breath but pushed in no further and merely sat back on his haunches waiting for Christian to say something.

Christian was grateful to Kylie for understanding what this kind of decision did to him, but alas he still had to make up his mind. Looking up at Kylie, he smiled at the gentle expression that lay upon her pale face and in his heart of hearts he knew what was right. “Dear Lady Kylie it would be a great honor to accompany you to the Tree Fold Mountains.” Christian then knelt to one knee in a showing of respect to her.

Kylie felt tears slide down her cheek as she walked over and raised his chin to look into his eyes. “Thank you.” She whispered.

Christian felt tears spring into his own eyes but they did not fall, he rose to his feet and nodded at her. “If we are to leave we must go now before anyone learns of my treachery!”

Mourdrid stood up then leaned his head down and gently hooked his fangs around Kylie’s small body; lifting her high over his back, he placed her softly on his furred back. “Then let us go now.”

Christian nodded and walked over to Blind Song, mounting him he steered him in the direction of the mountains then glanced over at Kylie who looked paler now than she ever had before. “Are you sure of this Kylie?”

Kylie looked at Christian and graced him with one of her small smiles. “Aye I must do this, it’s as if someone is pulling me to something so much greater than I…but I will do as I must and leave my fate in the hands of destiny.”

Mourdrid gave a small yip of approval. “Trust me Kylie no harm shall come to you whilst I watch over you,” He then begrudgingly added. “Along with the meat sack and dinner over there of course.”

Kylie giggled but stopped when she saw the look of anger pass over Christian’s face. “Come now Mourdrid he is helping us, can you not show him at least a little respect?”

Mourdrid looked appalled. “Am I not showing respect by refraining from eating them in their sleep?”

Number 4!

Claiming Fate

The next morning Kylie awoke to the sound of snarling out her window, flinging back her blanket she hurried to the window only to see Mourdrid below it trying to get past two smaller beasts, one a mouse like creature the other a proud looking deer. “Mourdrid behave yourself!” She shouted.

Mourdrid flinched and looked up. “Then tell these retched beasts to let me pass! They say I am not to see you and I will not stand for that!”

Shocked Kylie looked at the other two animals. “Will you not allow him to pass and visit me?”

The deer craned its head and looked up at her with dark eyes that seemed to see right into her soul. “This wolf shall not set foot into the castle! Not until he can act accordingly instead of like a mangy dog!”

She was just about to speak again when she saw Christian walk outside to stand beside the Deer.

Christian glared at the wolf. “What will it take to for you to realize that Kylie is hurt and needs her rest?”

Mourdrid growled low in his throat. “She is bound to me! I must keep my word to Calzaak and protect her!”

“Then protect her by letting her wounds heal you fool wolf! She will only be bed ridden longer if you try to push her!”

By now, Mourdrid’s eyes had darkened with immense anger. “Do not be so bold as to think you can order me around you human waste!”

“You really are a stupid beast are you not? You will not see Kylie and that is final, if you try and get to her then,” Christian motioned to the Deer. “Blind Song here will stop you.”

The Deer called Blind Song stepped forward and stood in front of Christian then faced Mourdrid. “Learn your place Mourdrid, you are still but a cub and though a promise you have made you are still to young to keep it on your own.”

Kylie saw the look of hurt and anger flash in Mourdrid’s eyes, unable to take it anymore she pushed herself up on to the windowsill then called down to Mourdrid. “If you wish to protect me Mourdrid then you had best catch me when I fall.”

Mourdrid looked up surprised then even more stunned still when he saw Kylie jump from the window, without hesitating he leapt into the air and caught her on his back then landed on his padded feet. “You fool girl! What possessed you to so something so foolish?”

She merely smiled at him “I wanted to prove that you could protect me, and you did so very well by not letting me fall.”

Christian was dumbfounded that she would do something so reckless just to defend a beast whom she barely knew to begin with. “Kylie you need to be resting!”

Kylie looked over at Christian then at the Deer. “Blind Song is your mount correct?”

Confused Christian nodded. “Yea he is but what does that have to do with anything right now?”

“He is blind am I right?” She asked looking into Blind Song’s dark eyes.

Once more, he nodded. “Aye that he is, still I do not know what his being blind has to do with anything?”

“Tell me Christian would you let any of your fellow warriors say Blind Song was lacking merely because he was blind?”

Rage colored Christian’s face red as he yelled. “NEVER! Blind Song is more of a warrior then half the men alive out there; he lacks nothing due to blindness!”

“Yet you condemn Mourdrid merely because he is a youngling?” Kylie pointed out calmly.

Christian’s anger ceased when he realized she had proved a point. “Look Kylie I’m sorry but it does not matter. You are a woman and Mourdrid is to be given to a male fighter.”

Mourdrid growled once more. “I will fight for no one but Kylie! Put as many men as you wish at my feet, I will merely bite them in half!”

Kylie closed her eyes and tried to gather her thoughts. “Perhaps I could speak with your leader to sort this out?”

Blind Song lowered is nose to Christian’s cheek and nuzzled him before speaking. “Girl, do you wish for a quicker death?”

Stunned Kylie looked at the buck with weary eyes. “What do you mean by that?”

“The king will merely spill your blood for trying to defy him, and also behead my master with accusations of treason!” He said with a stamp of his hoof.

“But Christian said they would not harm me because they were thankful!”

Christian rubbed the back of his head and glared at Blind Song for saying anything. “I was
going to tell you…”

“Tell me what?” She asked frightened by the look in Christina’s eyes. “What are they going to do to me?”

Sighing Christian walked over and held out his hand wanting her off Mourdrid. “Come down here and I shall explain it all to you.”

She hesitantly took his hand and much to Mourdrid’s dismay slid to the ground below. “Very well tell me what is going to happen to me?”

“The King was pleased to have most of his army spared…but to be saved by a girl is shameful so he has decided to…” He looked away as if he couldn’t bare pain of what must be said.

Mourdrid rose to his full height and opened his mouth to reveal his full set of deadly fangs, then in a snarling voice said. “Human it would be wise to tell us what fate they wish to bestow
upon Kylie!”

“The King is going to have Kylie thrown into the wastelands for the Dark ones to do as they will with her for the killing of their General, he hopes it will cause them to rethink attaching for a bit.”

Kylie gasped and then turned throwing herself at Mourdrid sobbing into his thick furred leg.

Mourdrid saw red at the mere thought of letting the Dark ones have her. “Then I shall flee from this place with her, I will take her someplace safe!”

With pain written in his eyes, Christian looked away. “I’m afraid I cannot let you do that.”

“Tis not a matter of letting me or not, tis a matter of if you are willing to die as well as your
buck in order to stop me!” He said with a snarl snapping his fangs at Christian.

Welp here is the next part...people tell me this story is good so maybe I'll keep up with it.

THREEEEEE!

Christian was just about to reach out and pat her hand when suddenly shouts went out through the castle, whipping his head around he heard the sounds of something crashing through the doors.

Kylie looked at Christian with fear in her sky blue orbs. “What is it? What’s going on out there?”

Christian put his hand on his sword and tensed for a fight. “I do not know what comes, but be assured I shall keep you safe.” There was another crash then the heavy door came crashing down as Mourdrid stood there, his mouth foaming as he snarled at Christian. “Beast why are you in such a rage?”

Mourdrid snapped his jaws at Christian driving him away from Kylie. “This is what shall happen when you try and keep me from the girl! Only the next time blood shall be spilled…I swear that.”

Kylie’s eyes went wide with shock. “Mourdrid, they were not keeping us apart but merely tending to my wounds as well as yours.”

Mourdrid walked over and lowered his head to sniff at her before gently picking her up with his teeth then tossing her onto his back with great care. “My wounds are fine and the best care for you is to stay beside me at all times!”

Christian got to his feet and glared at the cub. “Wolf you forget your place! You are but a cub; you would never be able to protect her! Now put her back down on the bedding before you reopen her chest wound you mangy mongrel!”

Mourdrid rose to his full height and glared down at the human. “Do not speak down to me you pathetic sack of meat! The only human I shall listen to his my chosen master and rider…Kylie!”

Kylie nearly fell off Mourdrid from the shock. “I am no warrior Mourdrid! I cannot be your master and rider; I am but a petty woman!”

Mourdrid rolled one eye back to stare at Kylie. “It was Calzaak’s wish that you be protected, and I shall take that duty upon myself!”

Kylie felt her heart constrict at the mention of Calzaak. “Why would he want me protected? I am nothing… worth less than the dirt.”

Mourdrid snarled at that comment, leaning down he rubbed his muzzle against her cheek gently. “Calzaak saw something great in you, and I saw the same thing when I saved you from that panther.”

Christian had stood by idly until now while Kylie talked with her beast, but no more of that, he walked over to the wolf and looked up at him. “Wolf we are grateful to both you and Kylie for saving our lives but she will never be allowed to ride you again.”

This was the last straw for Mourdrid, he raised one huge paw and swept it under Christian knocking the man onto his back, and then he placed his paw on Christian’s chest and pressed down. “I’m sorry to disappoint you human but Kylie will be the only one to ride me into battle! If you or any other human says other wise, I promise I will do more to you than any of the Dark ones could even think of.

By now, Kylie’s head was buzzing as the pain in her chest intensified. “Please Mourdrid do not fight with him…” With a gasp, she fell off the wolf’s back.

Christian ran forward and caught Kylie just before she hit the floor. He then glared up at the visibly stunned wolf. “I told you she was still hurt you fool of an animal!”

Mourdrid let out a low growl but stopped when Kylie moaned in pain, leaning down he flicked his tongue out over her lips gently. “Fine heal her with your human medicines! But you now know that this girl belongs to me now!”

With an equally menacing glare thrown at the wolf, he bowed sarcastically then backed out of the room. “That damn wolf shall get her killed if he continues on like this!” While continuing to mumble he walked off down the long corridor.

When evening fell, Kylie stirred, she was glad to note that the pain in her chest had lessened to a dull throb now. Getting out of the bed she was in she looked around, seeing nothing familiar she opened the door and walked out into the hall. “Hello? Is anybody there?”

A door opened across for her and there stood Christian with merely his trousers on. “Kylie you need not get out of bed until you wound has healed more.”

Trying not to stare at his bare chest, she blushed and looked to the floor. “When I woke I saw nothing familiar and I wanted to find out where I was.”

Grinning he walked out of his room completely and closed his door behind him. “Well you are in the warrior’s chamber, and you’ll be under constant care until you recover.”

Kylie pulled back in shock. “I cannot stay in the warrior’s chamber!” She said and then turned to leave. “I shall sleep with Mourdrid.”

“And just how per say are you going to find him right now? It’s pitch black out there and he has long since left the Hall of Creatures.”

Kylie bit her bottom lip and turned to look out a window into the veiling darkness of the night. “Tell me Christian…what will happen to me once my wounds have healed?”

Christian grimaced. “I cannot say for sure, tis unlikely that they would wish to bring harm to you for saving us but,” His sentence drifted off.

“They are troubled because though they have been saved, it was still done by a woman and they cannot accept that, correct?” Kylie asked with more wisdom in her eyes than her years let
on.

Kneeling before her Christian took her hand in his and stared at her with clear honest eyes. “Though I do not know what fate awaits you, I promise that I shall protect you from any and all harm.”

Kylie felt her blush deepen until she was sure she must be scarlet. “I thank you for that promise Christian but I will not hold you to it when it would mean defying your higher ups.”

Christian shook his head and stood once more. “Kylie I cannot and will not forget your bravery today, therefore you have my sword for as long as you have need of it.” Then without warning, he swept Kylie up in his arms.

Kylie yelped in surprise and threw her arms around his neck to brace herself. “Sir Christian what are you doing?”

Laughing heartily at her stunned expression he nodded towards her room. “I am putting you back to bed before you carry on and reopen that nasty wound of yours!”

“Oh, well thanks but I could have managed you know.”

“Yea but I also wanted an excuse to pick you up, so be quiet and let me enjoy it ok.”

She remained stock still as he carried her over and put her on the bed. “Thanks.”

Nodding Christian made sure she would be fine for the rest of the night before heading out. “Sleep well Kylie.” He then closed the door and left.

Part Two!!!!!

Kylie ran as fast as her feet would carry her, she ran into the courtyard where the flames had begun to reach and the grass was now stained red. Fighting down her fear and bile that was rising in her throat, she continued onward to the Hall of Creatures. She pushed open the doors and ran in, when she was inside though she felt her heart stop for the bodies of slain beasts laid strewn out across the Hall’s floor. “NO! Calzaak! Where are you?” She cried out over the roar of the battle outside.

Calzaak walked up to Kylie, a long gash ran from his left shoulder blade all the way to his soft underbelly. “Small one this is not the place for you! Flee to the mountains with the rest of your kind!”

Kylie ran over and wrapped her arms around his leg. “I will not abandon you to death! I will help you escape, just come with me!”

Calzaak purred as he felt her love radiate onto him. “Alas small one my place is here defending your kind. Now flee before it is too late!”

Once more, she shook her head. “No! I refuse to leave a friend to such a fate! Now please come with me, it is not too late!”

Pulling away from her, he nudged the small girl back towards the door. “Kylie, you are but a cub and it is my job to keep you safe from the bloodshed outside!” Then with a great toss of his head, he ran outside leaving Kylie alone to flee to safety.

Kylie shook and covered her ears when a mournful roar shook the Hall; she sat there huddled in the corner for sometime. She was in to much shock to make her feet obey her and run. It wasn’t until she heard Calzaak let out a pained cry that she scrambled to her feet, peeking outside she saw a giant panther tearing threw Calzaak’s limp carcass.

With a cry, she ran outside and threw herself onto Calzaak’s bleeding body. “Leave him be! He has already left this world, what more could you want?” She trembled with fear as the panther’s eyes glistened and he moved to swipe his claws across her.

The panther let out a cry when it felt a pair of jaws snap down on its spinal cord, he howled with pain as he felt the bones crack and shatter under the pressure before falling limply to the ground.

Kylie looked up to see a giant black wolf standing before her, though she noted it was smaller than most wolves she had seen. “Wh-who are you?”

The wolf’s lips curled back into what could only be called a feral smile. “You are the human cub that Calzaak wished to save are you not?”

Bowing her head she nodded as new pain washed over heart like a sea of sadness. She had no time to mourn though because she soon found her herself picked up by the wolf and tossed onto his back. “What are you doing?” She asked in a small trembling voice.

“It was Calzaak’s wish to keep you safe and seeing as I can not do much on the battle field due to my being a cub I thought I might run with you to the mountains and keep you safe there.”

Kylie stared in awe at the wolf. “You, a great beast will protect a lowly woman such as I?’

The wolf let out a cackle at her stunned expression. “Humans are truly odd creatures indeed, now let us go!” He readied himself to run when she suddenly yelled for him to wait. “What is it?”

“We cannot just leave these people to die! We must do something to help them!” Kylie said with a determined tone.

Rolling his dark eyes the wolf turned and faced the battlefield. “You understand that not only are we both cubs but you are a woman and what you wish for is but death in doing this?

Kylie nodded as she stared at the blood stained battlefield. “I know…but my heart would die if I left them with out trying to be of some help.”

His eyes scanned the field and then his gaze locked onto the Dark one that sat upon a golden lion. “If you truly wish to survive this and end this particular battle then you must kill the one that sits upon the lion!”

She looked over at the Dark one and nodded. “If that’s what must be done then let us be on with it,” She looked around then down at the top of the wolf’s head. “I shall probably need a weapon.”

Snorting the wolf trotted over, seized the sword of a fallen warrior between his teeth, and tossed it up to her. “You really are useless!”

With a smile, she gripped the hilt of the sword and tightened her legs around him. “Well then I shan’t be missed then will I? Now onward, we face our deaths but with brave hearts in doing so!”

With a snarl, he reared up and shot off towards the leader, running at top speed he felt the tiny girl cling to him for dear life with one small hand as she braced the sword in the other.

Leaning down to the wolf’s ear, she asked him the one thing she wished to know before they both died. “Sir Wolf please tell me your name before death claims us both.”

He rolled one dark eye back and looked at her with surprise. “My name is Mourdrin; it is an honor to know you small one.”

With a smile, Kylie ran her fingers through his silky black fur then faced the battle once more. “Well then now that we know each other shall we end this?”

Tossing his head, he picked up speed. “Small one you have read my thoughts.”

With a shaky grin, she held on for dear life as they charged forward. “Mourdrid I must apologize now in case we both lose our lives in this battle.”

Mourdrid gave a sinister laugh. “Child I was born to die, I am just happy I’ll die doing something great, now prepare yourself we come upon the Dark one!”

Raising the sword high above her, she focused her gaze onto the Dark ones General, she saw him turn and his eyes widen at the sight of a female charging at him. She closed her eyes and prayed as they over came him, when she opened her eyes she saw he had raised his sword. Pushing her own fear aside, she brought down her sword and prepared for death.

“Brace yourself small one for this is the end I fear!” He howled a in a raging voice as he felt the arrows and spears of nearby underlings pierce his hide and flesh.

The last thing Kylie felt before driving her blade at the Dark one was the brief sting of something penetrate her chest then darkness overcame her senses.

A warrior near them heard the agonizing cry of the Dark General as he fell from his beast in a pool of his own blood, looking around he saw the rest of his troops were already withdrawing out of fear.

Looking back he saw one of their wolf cubs with a small female lying limply on his back, he ran over to them in shock but was kept at bay by the snapping jaws of the angry beast. “Wolf the girl will perish if you keep me from her now!” He said in an angry tone.

Mourdrid stared at the human man then carefully allowed him to slide Kylie off his bloodied back. “Take heed human! If harm comes to that girl whilst she is in your care I shall snap off your head with my fangs!”

The warrior nodded as he bowed before the wolf cub, he then ran off to see to the girl’s wounds. It wasn’t until he was a good twenty feet from the beast that he realized that this girl was the one that slew the Dark General, stopping he stared down at the tiny girl and tried to understand how she could have accomplished such a feet.

Shaking his head he decided to figure it out later, for now the girl needed much care. He continued onward to their medical ward to have her treated. Though he was not sure she would survive such a bad blow to her chest.

Hours later Kylie struggled to open her heavy eyes, with a gasp she felt a sharp burning pain shoot through her chest.

“You should lie still, you have quiet the gruesome wound on your chest.” Said a nearby voice.

Kylie yelped and turned swiftly to see a man sitting near her bed; he had short brown hair with beep blue eyes and looked about twenty or so. “Who are you Sir?”

Laughing he stood and bowed before her. “My name is Christian dear lady.” He then sat back down beside her.

Confused she looked around at her surroundings. “I do not understand, where am? What happened to Mourdrid and I? MOURDRID! Where is he?” She threw back the sheets and tried to get up in a frenzy.

Christian gently pushed her back down onto the bed. “Calm yourself little one. Your wolf is fine and is having his wounds treated,” He paused a second before continuing. “And as for what happened well…You Lady Kylie slew the Dark General and saved us all.”

Kylie’s jaw nearly fell off it was hanging so wide. “I…me…Will I be punished?” she asked softly.

Rearing back in shock he stared at Kylie as tears ran down her face. “Why on earth would you be punished for saving us?”

“Because a woman is not to be allowed onto the back of a sacred beast…and I rode forth on Mourdrid.”

“That may very well be, but you saved us all in doing so. You will be revered as a hero Kylie not punished.” Christian said with a smile.

Kylie felt her heart lighten, looking up she smiled at Christian timidly. “Then may I see Mourdrid now please?” She asked eagerly.

Shaking his head, he looked her square in the eye. “You may not be punished but we have a lot of things we need to talk with you about, plus you are no where near well enough to go gallivanting off to play with some cub.”

“Oh, I see.” She let her shoulders sag as she looked away from Christian. “Well when shall I see Mourdrid? I am very worried about him.”

Smiling Christian couldn’t help but realize how sweet she was. “A cub he may be but he is still capable of fending for himself for the time being.”

She blushed and ducked her head, she knew that Mourdrid would be fine without her yet still she wanted him near. She felt like he was the only she could look to right now.

Story Part one.

Unwanted Beginnings

Kylie was scrubbing the floors when suddenly a loud bang shook the castle to its core. Frightened she got up and ran to the window, she was shocked to see that there was a battle right there in the courtyard. “How can this be?” She turned on her heel and fled to the maid’s hall, upon seeing the head maid she stopped in front of her out of breath. “Miss. Elsa there is a battle out in the front!”

Elsa sighed and looked down at Kylie, she was a small girl barely five foot two with long pale honey blonde hair, and a small heart shaped face with large oval eyes the color the sky. “Calm yourself Kylie, our men shall protect us. There is no need to worry tis a small battle as it is.” She said trying to calm the small fifteen year old.

With wide eyes, she slowly nodded but flinched when another thunderous boom shook the castle. “Miss. Elsa…when will this fight cease?”

With a deep sorrow showing in her aging eyes, she looked away into the distance as if staring at something only she could see before she spoke. “I’m afraid my dear that it shall be many a year before this war ceases and we once again live in peaceful times.”

Kylie sighed and wiped the sweat of her brow with the back of her dirty hand leaving a streak across her white flesh. “Well I think they just all need to stop this meaningless war! It makes no sense to me why our loved ones must continue to die for such reasons as gaining power over others!”

Elsa felt a small smile tug at her tight mouth. “Kylie my sweet one day you will understand why we must fight, but until then why not finish up with your chores? I’m sure the warriors do not wish to come back to an unclean home.”

Kylie brightened at that comment and shook her head vigorously. “No, no! I’ll hurry and finish with my duties now Miss. Elsa!” She said and scampered off down the hall.

Elsa smiled sadly, as she watched Kylie’s receding back. “A poor girl like her probably won’t survive in a world like this to see the dawning of her eighteenth birthday.” With a sad shake of her head, she went back to her own work duties.

After two more hours of scrubbing, dusting, and mopping Kylie finally finished her workload for the day and went to put away her cleaning supplies. On her way to put her things away, she saw the warriors from the window; they were covered in blood as they led an assortment of beasts back to the Hall of Creatures.

With fascination burning in her eyes she stared at the mighty beasts they led, there were so many she could barely name them all. There was anything from giant foxes to overgrown eagles out there.

With her eagerness to see more of these creatures she hurriedly and put away her things then quickly ran to the outer sanctum which led to the Hall of Creatures. She knew it was forbidden for a woman to set foot in this holy ground but she merely wanted a peek at the wondrous animals that dwelled here.

When she reached the gates she slipped through them swiftly and ran to the steps of the hall, with a deep breath she pushed open the doors and snuck in careful not be seen. What she saw inside left her in awe though, creatures of all sorts lays in there. Their bodies covered in blood as they licked at their wounds.

With a shocked gasp she ran over to the beasts without thinking, she stopped dead though when a huge tiger stood and loomed over her. “Eep! I-I’m s-sorry o’ mighty tiger! I saw the wounds on you and your brethren and merely wanted to help you!” She felt foolish speaking with the creature but could not stop the words as they spilled from her unhinged jaw.

The tiger leaned his head down and sniffed the girl, his hot breath rolled over her skin and he saw that she shook with fear yet still held her ground firmly. “Do not be afraid small one; I would not eat the likes of you.” He let out a small laughing growl when she let out a small squeak when he spoke.

Kylie’s heart felt has though it would pound its way free of her rib cage when she heard the tiger speak human words to her. “You speak in our tongue m-my lord?”

The tiger’s eyes shown with laughter as he lowered his head to eye level with hers. “I can speak any language small one, from human to any animal you may think of. Now mayhap you might tell me why a girl such as yourself would risk her freedom and life by entering this domain?”

Gulping Kylie looked at the great tiger directly in his golden eye. “I was fascinated by your kind my lord, I merely wanted to see you and more of your kind up close. I meant no ill will in my coming here.”

Nearby the tiger, a lioness lifted her head and looked at the small girl. “The men will have her head if they catch near us Calzaak.” She said with a lazy toss of her head.

Stunned Kylie simply stared at the lioness before looking back at the tiger. “Your name is Calzaak?”

Calzaak nodded his tremendous head. “Yes, my master gave it to me when I was but a cub.”

“May I ask who your master is mighty Calzaak?” She asked in a voice that was a bit more firm than the trembling one she had used but seconds ago.

Calzaak felt a great sadness creep into his heart. “He died nearly a decade ago in a fierce battle, since that fateful day I have not been on the battle field. Now I’m afraid I am too old and my time is short yet.”

Kylie felt hot tears burn behind her eyes as the threatened to spill out onto her cheeks. “I’m sorry that you had to suffer such a loss mighty Calzaak. Tis always a shame when you lose someone dear to your heart.”

Calzaak reached down and nudged the girl gently with his graying muzzle. “Do not feel sorrow for me small one, I sense it is your own well being that should concern you the most.”

Kylie smiled gently as his warm breath rolled over her as he showed affection. “I am but a mere maid in the castle, nothing shall happen unless the castle is breached.”

With wise eyes, he raised his head and stared down at her. “No small one, I believe your destiny will lead you through many sorrows and pains.”

With fear rising in her eyes Kylie stepped back, she didn’t have time to ask him what his words meant though for she heard the clanking of footsteps coming this way. “They shall have my head if they catch me here!”

The tiger motioned towards the far wall. “There is a door over there, go through it and flee here!” He stopped her with one large paw as she began to run. “Heed my words child! You life will soon be in graver danger than if you were to be caught here today!”

Confused Kylie merely nodded and ran to the door; with one last glance back she swung open the door and fled as if the devil were at her heels.

Once she was safely back in her quarters, Kylie collapsed onto her small bed and gasped for air. She didn’t understand the tigers words but she knew that what he said was important and she must not forget his words to her. “I’m just glad that for the moment I have escaped punishment for my feigning ignorance of the rules.” Turning over she curled in a ball on her bed and let out a long sigh as her heartbeat returned to its normal pace. “I was acting the part of a fool for going to that Hall! I never should have allowed my childish curiosity get the best of my head!” While scolding herself Kylie also swore to herself that, she would never set foot in the Hall of Creatures again.

When next Kylie opened her eyes, it was no longer light out, as she got up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes she walked over to her small window and looked outside. Her hand dropped to her side as she stared at the horrendous fire that was sweeping the countryside and headed this way this with the help of the wind.

While Kylie stared out the window, her room door flew open and Elsa ran in. “Kylie! Child why are you still here? We must flee for the mountains now!” She cried.

Kylie turned and looked at Miss. Elsa with eyes wide with a mixture of tears and fear. “Miss. Elsa what is happening?”

As she rushed to throw Kylie’s few belongings together, she fervently tried to explain. “The Dark ones have set fire to the dry fields and used there dark magic’s to make the wind fan the flames toward us! At this rate, everything will burn and we shall loose everything! Still our warriors cannot both fight off the enemy and protect us from the flames so we must abandon our homes for now!”

Kylie shrank away against the wall and shook her head. “I cannot leave my home! I have no where else to go!”

Elsa forced back her irritation and walked over to Kylie, gripping her shoulders she looked the girl in the eyes. “Kylie we will return, but right now our people are being slaughtered and our home is being destroyed! We must leave if we wish to hold onto our own lives, do you understand?”

Kylie nodded and fought back the tears once more. “I understand Miss. Elsa…” She watched as Miss. Elsa nodded and went back to stuffing her things into an old bag.

Elsa finished her task then turned and grabbed Kylie’s hand. “Now let us run from this place before we are burned with it or caught in the battles outside!” She dragged Kylie out into the hall.

Kylie ran to keep up with Miss. Elsa as she was dragged along, but she suddenly pulled to a stop when her mind flashed to Calzaak. “I’m sorry Miss. Elsa but I need to do something before we leave!”

Elsa was to her wits end with Kylie. “Kylie there is no time! If you run off I shall not wait for you and flee myself!”

Kylie felt her heart grow heavy but she simply stepped out of Miss. Elsa’s grasp. “I’m sorry…but tis important what I must do so….goodbye Mama…” She turned and fled down the opposite way leaving her mother behind.

Elsa fell to her knees and cried out for Kylie to come back. “Kylie! Come back here now!” Sobbing she brought her hands to her face as her heart broke in half.
